The thing about them is that they offered free gameplay to people who owned modems and phone lines but couldn't afford to buy games (or: who owned computers beneath the minimum requirements of games in stores at the time.)Solar Realms Elite (SRE) was written in 19901994 for BBS systems running on IBM PCs. A note on time units in SRE: Turns and Years are game time. Turn Dos Games Into Bbs Door Games For Free Or DonateI didn't say I've never heard of games people pay a monthly fee to pay (I'm not sure where you got that idea from what I said). Basically a fee to cover costs of keeping the server running and for the operator to take time to keep it up and help the new idiot sysops that come and go get connected to the server.■ Synchronet ■ ::: BBSES.info - free BBS services :::There are a lot more than those - There's LORD, LORD 2, and Planets: TEOS just to name a few.I only said I think commercial software should be something you pay for once. I would do it per year and keep it a low fee. You could either get it for free or donate. And when i'm talking about this gameserver idea i'm not saying per month. Style works xt universal baixarI think all doorgames should be free and many of my doorgame dev buddies now feel the same way. There are a lot more than those - There's LORD, LORD 2, and Planets:Ah, I see. Operator would collect a small fee to cover server costs and support to users. The benefits to people participating would be ease of use, active gaming for their users, and the resources would fall on the hosting server.I am not pushing it off as a way to make money. This server handles the load of users and allows all participants to connect like an ibbs league. I was suggesting a business model where they have the game that connects to a server. I GET that every doorgame doorgame from the past is pretty much shareware.Particularly like the model of paying a recurring fee to continue to use software. That's not what i was suggesting exactly. I think it's stupid. Is that because you believe door games don't have value anymore? Or perhaps that you don't play door games? They're not newer games. ![]() Like i saidA few of my buddies were doorgame devs and lord igms creators and they believed strongly that all games should be free at this point. While people like bbsfiles' doug thinks they should have a pricetag to give them worth. Is that because you believe door games don't have value anymore? OrSorry to butt in, I don't like paying the same prices for door games that we paid back in the 80s. I can understand why many BBS doors are free these days though - These days, there just isn't aYeah it's their right to sell it or give it away.Honestly deep down i dont think doorgames have any value in today's age. Also another part of me feels that if someone makes something like a doorgame they should do it to better the community. But it's their program and they can do whatever they wanna do. I can understand why many BBS doors are free these days though - These days, there just isn't a huge market of BBS sysops & users like there used to be, so the incentive to sell BBS doors is not what it used to be.I'm still curious why you feel that all door games should be free? Do you feel that door games no longer have any value that would equate to monetary pricing? While I'm thankful and think it's great that most BBS door games are now freeware or donationware, I still think it's up to the author ofThe software to decide to sell it or give it away. Turn Dos Games Into Bbs Door Games Registration When TheI guess a lot of these games were sold and are no longer supported. I'd feel better if I could make a donation, or if the author required a specific registration when the game goes over a certain# of runs/users, but before that it's pay whatever.I think the software author should get his fair share, but if the game isn't being actively improved I don't see the point of reg fees, you're basically paying someone to give you a key for your 69 vw bug. Maybe someone can point to a BBS Door game that I've overlooked that's still updated and has features not found in every other BBS game?I just can't pop $25 for lord/lord2/bre/fe/fh or whatever. At least MUDs have newer concepts such as NPCs but that's really nothing terribly new. Facetime loginLet me know.I'd be interested in taking a look at it and trying to determine if it'd be within my capabilities to help out on. I'm interested in Linux coders.
